CPR and 1st Aid

As I've already said, I entered the Air Force in 1977 and became a Fire Fighter.   In some form or another, throughout the years after leaving the military, I continued working, teaching or volunteering at various fire stations and EMS facilities.  Since around the year 2000 I stopped running into burning buildings and started using the knowledge I've gained over the last 23 years to teach the next generation of firefighter and EMT.  It was this love of teaching that prompted me to go and get certified as a CPR and 1st Aid Instructor.

Since I first received my certification, I've changed Training Centers a number of times.  Presently, I am aligned with Austin Travis County EMS and hold approximately 1 CPR class a month.  By "CPR class", what I mean is some form of American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR, AED, Healthcare Provider BLS, adult, pediatric, infant or 1st Aid class.

The United Clubs of Austin (UCOA) has been kind enough to supply approximately half of all the equipment needed to teach the Heartsaver CPR class, so I am able to give these classes to the community at almost no cost.  The only items that I cannot cover are the student workbook - which each student who wants one would need to purchase through one of the AHA's preferred vendors, (World Point or Channing Bete); and runs about $10.00 - and the actual CPR Completion Card, which I purchase before each class based on the number of students expected - which I ask only to be reimbursed for at $2.00 apiece, at the conclusion of the class.  Any donations above the two dollars is gratefully accepted and appreciated.

In addittion to the Heartsaver CPR class I give each month, I hope to begin giving an infant or infant/child CPR class once a month, as well.  Feel free to contact me if you'd like to take advantage of the UCOA's kindness.
